Ace Seal offers stock bungs in standard U.S./French size (55mm top x 44mm base x 48mm height); custom wine barrel bungs are available in nearly any size your project may require. “Natural” (translucent white) color is standard, but we can provide solid bungs in custom colors and/or with custom printing to meet your unique needs.

What is Silicone & Why is It Used for Wine Stoppers?

“Silicone” is the general name for a family of polymers that includes any synthetic compound consisting of repeating units of siloxane. The most common form of silicone is silicone rubber, which is popular for a wide range of applications. Generally, silicone rubber is non-reactive, stable, resistant to fungal growth, and can be used in harsh environments and extreme temperatures (-75° to 450°F/-60° to 232°C) without losing its useful properties. Silicone maintains its dimensional tolerances at high temps, and won’t become brittle in subzero conditions.

Silicone rubber’s chemical and mechanical properties, along with the ease with which it can be molded, make it an ideal material for wine barrel stoppers. Ace Seal uses special, FDA-approved, food grade silicone for all our barrel bungs.
